Number Four + Five

Spend a day in a museum and see my family more than once a year.

(aka make time for the things that matter.)

In December, I took matters in my own hands to make sure my Mama had a great — not good — birthday and summoned the family to DC. They fought me a little bit, but I prevailed. 💪🏽

We only had a day and a 1/2 but we packed in a lot. But mostly, my Mom got the one true gift she wanted, to be with her family.

Speaking of lists — The National Museum of African American History has been on my to-do since it opened. I knew this would be an emotional experience—but I wasn’t truly prepared.

This is curated perfectly — to make you feel sadness, shame, or blame and then resilient and proud.

They provide so much information that one visit isn’t enough.

If you aren’t afraid of the horrific origin story of this country, I cannot recommend going to this museum more. We need to learn all of our histories. Once we know better, we will hopefully do better.

If you are, afraid, well….

When I was on staff I would get to see my family once (if that) a year. I hated that. So when I went freelance, I knew the very thing I was gonna push to the top of my list. But then the parallelogram happened.
Hilarious.

Thankfully, last year we had science on our side — and I got to see them twice! ❤️
